March 27: WEEKLY HOMEWORK UPDATE:
Hi there parents/guardians,
Our weekly math homework program has been helpful for the beginning/mid school year. I feel like it has set students up with a task they are responsible for each night. As we come to our last 3 months in grade 2/3 we are shifting to becoming even more independent as our workload increases. From now on, there will be additional schoolwork in math, language, social studies or science that will be coming home if not completed in class. You may have noticed that this increase in homework has already started in the past couple of weeks. It is now even more important to check in with your child to ensure they are writing down reminders in the agenda daily. With this being said, there is often more than enough time to complete tasks in class if time is managed correctly. As we near EQAO time (end of May) there may be some additional tasks you can practice with your child at home related to the test.
I will no longer be sending home the weekly homework math chart so that students can spend quality time on their class tasks at home. If your child finished everything in class that day, then their homework is to read for 30 minutes. Reading every day is so important as your child blossoms as a young reader!
Thanks for your continued support,
As always - any questions or concerns can be sent my way in the form of a note in your child's agenda or a phone call to the school.
Warmly,
Ms. Gresko
Agenda: Please ensure you are checking in with the agenda daily. Homework will be assigned on an "as needed" basis, if students were unable to finish necessary work throughout the day. If this is the case, it is expected that homework be completed and brought back to school the next day. On occasion, there will be projects sent home with advanced notice of the due date. Please be there to answer questions and assist with these projects, but allow your child to complete it to the best of their abilities.
Reading:
Students should be reading 30 minutes per evening.
Spelling:
On Monday students will receive 15 spelling words. On Friday there will be a spelling test each week (Thursday if it's a holiday)
Here is a suggested guideline for spelling activities to do throughout the week. These are ideas to be completed at home (they will not be checked)
Monday: Write each spelling word three times.
Tuesday: Write your spelling words in alphabetical order.
Wednesday: Choose two of your spelling words. Write a sentence using each of them.
Thursday: Take a practice test. Ask an adult to read your words to you so you can write them without looking at the list.
